Cody Rhodes Explains Why WWE WrestleMania 39 Doesn't Need The Rock

Cody Rhodes believes WWE's WrestleMania plans don't necessarily need The Rock.

It has become increasingly apparent in recent weeks that WWE's WrestleMania 39 plans are set to go ahead without the involvement of The Rock. Roman Reigns extended run as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion has brought constant speculation that he'll eventually run into The Rock at some point, but the booking of last month's Royal Rumble seemed to indicate a focus elsewhere - at least for now.

Cody Rhodes returned from injury to win the Men's Royal Rumble, securing a title shot against Reigns at WrestleMania - while Reigns himself is preoccupied with the recent babyface turn of Sami Zayn.

Speaking to Alex McCarthy for Sportsmail, Cody explained why WWE will be fine without The Rock at WrestleMania:

"I think sometimes wrestling fans think it's got to be one or it's got to be the other [the story of Cody himself, or Sami Zayn] whereas I subscribe - and I'm not in charge - I subscribe to give them everything. That's where it really takes smart planners and creative individuals on how you layer it. [...] With all the respect in the world to one of the GOATs, The Rock, it looks like the options we have here within the roster are even better because of the stories that are happening. One story about finishing something that started in 1978 - seven years before I was even born - and another story of really the tragedy of being welcomed into the Bloodline, and then what you saw unfolds."

WrestleMania 39 is set to take place on April 1 and 2 in Los Angeles, California - but prior to that, Reigns will defend his title against Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber on February 18 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
