Freddie Prinze Jr. Reveals Triple H Was "Very Against" Jeff Hardy's 2008 WWE Push

2008 was a big year for Jeff Hardy as The Charismatic Enigma finally reached the main event scene and ended the year as WWE Champion, having defeated Triple H and Edge at Armageddon.

Hardy's WWE Title win at the December pay-per-view came after months of unsuccessfully challenging Triple H for the gold as the company continued to build sympathy for the then-31-year-old.

While Triple H played a major part in elevating Hardy, he didn't support The Charismatic Enigma's rise to the top, former WWE Writer Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed on The Ariel Helwani Show. 

"We were all pretty straightforward with one another, I feel the Jeff Hardy storyline was the end of any relationship that I had with Hunter and I'm pretty open about that, but it wasn't a secret. [Triple H] was very against it, he didn't feel like we could count on Jeff, Hunter is a company man and I felt creatively it was worth the risk and he didn't," Prinze Jr. said.

"In hindsight, Jeff was released from the company less than a year later because he got in more trouble, so I never blamed him for it, but at the time when I worked there, he wasn't having it. I don't worry about talking about that now, it's like 12 years later, he's a successful guy, I'm a successful guy, we don't care about that stuff and it's not a podcast where I crap on everyone."

Hardy would drop the WWE Title in early 2009 and he would have two reigns as World Heavyweight Champion before departing the company in September. Hardy was then arrested for illegally ordering controlled medicine just two weeks after he left WWE.
