Report: NJPW Talent React To Harold Meij's Resignation

He will leave New Japan on October 23...

New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced earlier this week that President/CEO Harold Meij had resigned. His departure was made official during a Bushiroad board of directors meeting and he will leave the company on October 23. Meij will be replaced by NJPW of America CEO Takami Ohbari.

Fightful Select caught up with several New Japan wrestlers following Meij's resignation. One NJPW star told them he never fully bought in to Meij's plan and they hoped he would be more proactive with working relationships with other promotions. Another wrestler said they hadn't quite seen the NJPW President's plan come to fruition but they were willing to give him more time to fully execute his vision after the coronavirus pandemic.

Meij's resignation didn't come as a surprise to many and Voices Of Wrestling noted they first heard rumblings of his departure last autumn. Dave Meltzer also reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Meij had rubbed some people within the company the wrong way during his time as president/CEO.
