Report: Why AEW PPVs Won't Be Free On Max

The reason AEW PPVs will only be available at a discount on Max has been revealed

All Elite Wrestling will continue their partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, with an announcement on Wednesday revealing the two companies will continue to work together for multiple years. Reports have revealed the new deal will be for three years with an option for a fourth year

Part of the new arrangement will see AEW pay-per-views be made available on Max at a discounted price later in 2025. This will see AEW use a similar method to UFC pay-per-views on ESPN+ where subscribers will need to make an extra stand-alone purchase to receive the pay-per-view.

Some fans were hopeful that AEW pay-per-views would be available to Max subscribers for free, similar to WWE pay-per-views/premium live events on Peacock or the WWE Network, but that won't be the case. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Warner Bros. Discovery were not in favour of this option as they would lose money doing so.

"It's the UFC deal but this was what WBD wanted from it. They didn't want the other deal because it wasn't economically feasible for them. They weren't looking to go into deficit spending for that deal," Meltzer said.

In addition to pay-per-views, AEW Dynamite and Collision will air live on Max.
