Report: WWE Creative Pitched To Reunite Murphy & Wesley Blake

The former NXT Tag Team Champions almost got back together

A former tag team almost reunited on WWE TV earlier this year.

According to Fightful Select, WWE creative pitched to reunite Wesley Blake and Murphy following Steve Cutler's release from the company. The idea ultimately never made it to TV, though, and Blake was released by WWE on April 15. He is free to sign with another company following the expiry of his 90-day non-compete clause on July 14.

Before Cutler's release, the two former Forgotten Sons members had only recently returned to WWE TV as King Corbin's Knights Of The Lone Wolf. They were pulled from TV in early January 2021, however, after Cutler tested positive for COVID-19 and garnered heat with Vince McMahon. Cutler was then released a month later and Blake never made it back on TV before being let go himself.

Murphy has also done little on WWE TV since the end of the Seth Rollins-Mysterio family feud. He has rarely appeared on SmackDown and has only competed on the blue brand twice in 2021.

Blake and Murphy previously teamed together in NXT from May 2014 until June 2016. They were one of the top tag teams on the black and gold brand and reigned as NXT Tag Team Champions for 219 days in 2015.
