Rey Mysterio Moves To WWE SmackDown, Receives IC Title Match
Rey returns to the blue brand
Rey Mysterio appeared on Friday night's SmackDown broadcast, where he ended up receiving a future shot at the WWE Intercontinental title.
Erstwhile Raw-brand talent Mysterio confronted Triple H backstage and told him that he wanted to quit WWE, as a result of falling out with son Dominik. To convince Mysterio to stay, Triple H offered to put Mysterio in the four way match to determine a number one contender for the IC title.
Taking the place of Karrion Kross (who was involved in a car accident earlier in the night), Mysterio outlasted Ricochet, Sheamus, and Solo Sikoa to earn the shot.
The finish of the match saw Sheamus and Sikoa leave the bout as part of a brawl involving respective members of The Bloodline and The Brawling Brutes. Mysterio then managed to finish Ricochet off with the 619 to win.
The Intercontinental championship is presently held by Gunther, who won the title on June 10 from Ricochet.
Mysterio himself is a former two-time Intercontinental champion, having won the belt on two occasions, both in 2009.
