Tony Khan: Talent Signing With WWE Aren't Signing Real Contracts, Just Temporary Arrangements

Tony Khan says talent that sign deals with WWE are not signing real contracts and are actually just making 'a temporary arrangement'. 

WWE have released over 80 performers from their respective contracts with the promotion in 2021 as the company continues to make reported budget-related cuts.

All Elite Wrestling talent MJF referenced WWE in a promo on Wednesday's Dynamite, saying there was going to be a bidding war for him when his AEW deal expired in 2024.

AEW President Khan said he knew about the line ahead of time but doesn't believe wrestlers sign real contracts with WWE these days.

Speaking with Busted Open Radio, Khan said: "Yes, I knew he was going to say that. He’s been saying it for a long time. I have no problem with it. I signed him to a five-year contract two years ago, he’s got three years left on it. I’m totally fine with it, because frankly -- there may be a bidding war in 2024, I’m fine with that."

He continued: "But anybody who signs a contract there [WWE] these days is not signing a real contract, in my opinion. It’s a temporary arrangement. And people who come wrestle with me, a lot of these people are frankly lifers and they know that.

"And there are some people who are here, and work really hard. And there’s some people here who come in and work more than really hard. Some people come in, and I feel like this is their actual life and they will be with me for the rest of my life.

"And I don’t know if everybody who works for my competition can say that. I think there are people who work there and they aren’t even sure they're going to be there next week."
