WES Cancel July 9 Show

WES have scrapped their first show

Only days ahead of their inaugural event on July 9 in Nottingham, England, Wrestling Entertainment Series have cancelled the show.

The promotion issued the following statement on social media:

"Dear fans and followers, unfortunately we will have to cancel the event scheduled for this Saturday at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham England. We are deeply disappointed in the news that we have to share but with so many talent not showing up we will have no choice then to cancel the event.

"Our team worked so hard on this event day in and day out for the fans to come with a different type of wrestling event and believe that we still will be able to show that in the near future. We do want to say that all our talent that was scheduled have been paid in full and that Lina Fanene was paid her deposit as well while she changed her mind and did not want to show up and wrestle anymore.

"For now we will have to apologize for this, but we promise that it will not end here. See you soon!"

Fans who purchased tickets for the event and pre-ordered the pay-per-view will also receive full refunds, according to WES.

The promotion's show has faced issues since it was first announced, with it being moved from an original date of June 4 to July 9 due to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend. The rescheduled show had reportedly sold under 350 tickets for a 10,000-seat venue.

WES faced accusations of false advertising too as they continued to feature Lina Fanene on posters for the event even though the former Nia Jax had announced she would not be at the show.

Furthermore, Dean Muhtadi challenged WES' claim that all talent had been paid when the former Mojo Rawley announced he would be holding a meet and greet. Proceeds from that event will be used to pay the UK wrestlers booked for the WES show as they have yet to receive money from the promotion.
