WWE Files To Oppose Cody Rhodes' Trademarks

In late 2019, Cody Rhodes went on somewhat of a trademark binge as he filed trademarks against properties connected to his father Dusty Rhodes. This led to The American Nightmare trademarking old WCW pay-per-views Bash At The Beach, Slamboree, and SuperBrawl, "Dusty Rhodes," and The Match Beyond. 

Rhodes has previously described the trademark filings as "a legal nightmare" because they previously belonged to WWE, but the wrestling behemoth failed to renew their trademarks which gave Cody the opportunity to swoop in and claim them. 

WWE's legal proceedings against Rhodes have now been revealed as the company filed to oppose his trademarks for The Match Beyond and Slamboree. WWE has not opposed Cody's trademark against "Dusty Rhodes."

The company filed for the standard 90-day extension to oppose the AEW Executive Vice President's trademarks, which gives them until July 22 to submit their final opposition. 

Slamboree was held by WCW from 1993 until 2000. The pay-per-view showcased high profile matches like Big Van Vader vs. Davey Boy Smith for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and Ric Flair, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper & Kevin Greene vs. The nWo. The Match Beyond refers to the WarGames match which was created by Dusty Rhodes after he was inspired by Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
