WWE Issues Statement On WrestleMania 36

The event currently sits 24 days away...

Amid all sorts of cancellations, postponements, suspensions, and change of venues for sporting leagues of all kinds, WWE has issued a statement to CBS Sports Thursday, concerning WrestleMania 36 and its current host venue, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

The statement reads, "While we remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that it is cancelled by government officials, civil authorities and/or local venues. The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay."

In a meeting of local officials Thursday, Tampa mayor Jane Castor stated that because WrestleMania is still several weeks away, no immediate decision on the city hosting the event is needed as of yet. Another meeting with officials has been scheduled for one week from now, at 1:30 PM EST on Thursday, March 19.

WWE has already moved Friday's episode of SmackDown from Detroit to the Performance Center in Orlando.
