WWE Pulled D-Von Dudley From ECW Tribute Show
No D-Von Dudley at the ECW tribute show over the weekend after WWE got involved
WWE didn't allow NXT producer and WWE Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley to appear at an independent wrestling event over the weekend.
Dudley was set to reunite with longtime tag team partner Bully Ray for Battleground Championship Wrestling's Tribute to the Extreme show from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday, December 17. Bully Ray faced Matt Cardona on the show and D-Von was set to be in Bully's corner, as well as appear at the pre-show convention.
PWInsider reported, though, that Battleground Championship Wrestling received a legal letter from WWE on December 15 about them playing off the ECW intellectual property with the Tribute to the Extreme event. WWE ultimately owns the rights to ECW.
This led to D-Von being pulled from the show and Dudley was unsuccessful in convincing WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H to change his mind.
Along with Bully Ray vs. Matt Cardona, Tribute to the Extreme featured The Vampire Warrior vs. Al Snow, and Juventud Guerrera vs. Super Crazy. Rob Van Dam went one-on-one with Rhino in the main event, while the likes of Shane Douglas, 2 Cold Scorpio, Raven, The Sandman, Blue Meanie, and Sabu were involved with the event.
Battleground Championship Wrestling are planning to make Tribute to the Extreme an annual event.
