WWE Reached Out To Ricky Starks Following His AEW Debut

Swooping in too late...

Back on the June 17 edition of Dynamite, Ricky Starks debuted in All Elite Wrestling and went one on one with Cody Rhodes for the TNT Championship. AEW were so impressed with "Absolute" they decided to sign him and he has featured prominently on Dark and Dynamite as a member of Team Taz since July.

Starks' career could have gone in a different direction, though. The former NWA World Television Champion revealed during a recent interview on The Chris Van Vliet Show that WWE reached out to him following his AEW debut.

Starks said: "The day that I wrestled Cody, I got a phone call from WWE saying, 'Hey, we've been watching you and we wanted to bring you in.' I said, 'Oh, really? Okay. Interesting. Of all days.' And so I entertain that conversation because I was curious.

"I think I knew already what decision I was going to make and I had a very dear, great friend tell me once, 'You should look at the people who want to invest in you and not know anything about you as opposed to the people who only wanted you when they saw someone else having interest.'"

Eddie Kingston previously revealed he found himself in a similar situation after his own TNT Title match. After AEW invited The War King back for more dates, WWE tried to sign him. Kingston ultimately told AEW about the offer and Christopher Daniels presented him with a contract shortly after.
