WWE Teases Return Of Cody Rhodes On Raw
Or is it only smoke and mirrors?
The ‘Cody Rhodes back to WWE’ train picked up more speed on the latest episode of Raw, as WWE teased the former AEW TNT Champion’s return several times on the show.
The Miz was first up to the plate, explaining that as he was looking for a tag partner to take on the Mysterios at WrestleMania 38 he found someone who "comes from a fighting family, a pioneer, someone who's very… dashing"’, before revealing his partner to be Logan Paul. WWE’s Twitter account also picked up on the word ‘dashing’ - a throwback to ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes, back when the ‘American Nightmare’ was rocking a lovely moustache.
Edge later had a segment of his own where he teased who he would be facing at ‘the showcase of the immortals’. Edge hinted at several opponents, such as someone ‘phenomenal’ (AJ Styles) a ‘demon’ (Finn Balor’), and someone ‘undeniable’, whilst the WWE Twitter account again Tweeted that Edge’s words announcement had no ‘smoke and mirrors’ about it.
Fans picked up on the ‘undeniable’ line being a throwback to Cody’s excellent AEW promo ahead of his AEW World Title match with Chris Jericho, whilst some fans argued that Edge’s line about ‘living forever’ was in reference to Cody’s AEW departure tweet, rather than a reference to Damian Priest.
As is common with WWE, they won’t tease something or someone unless it is going to happen, and it is now seemingly a question of when not if Cody Rhodes is going to return.
