The New York Police Department have confirmed they have charged a 24-year-old man with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs following an incident involving Seth Rollins at this week's WWE Monday Night Raw.

Rollins was making his way up the Raw ramp following the conclusion of his angle with Finn Balor when an individual jumped over the barricade and attacked The Messiah.

Rollins was immediately assisted by WWE officials, referees and security personnel, who detained the attacker and escorted them from the arena.

The assaulter has now been named as Elisah Spencer with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi reporting that the NYPD have issued charges against the 24-year-old.

Raimondi wrote on Twitter: "Elisah Spencer, 24, has been charged with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs (disrupting live sporting event) for his attack on WWE wrestler Seth Rollins during the Raw television show Monday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, per the NYPD.

"Per police, Rollins suffered swelling to his lip, but refused medical attention."

WWE confirmed in an earlier statement their intent to prosecute the individual, saying: "WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously. The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
