A "Surprising" Number Of WWE Fans Reportedly Left Recent Event Early

Fans walked out after seeing CM Punk at recent live event

WWE have been hitting a lot of highs when it comes to attendances recently, and that was reflected once more at the recent December 26 Boxing Day house show from Madison Square Garden, which proved to be the highest-grossing live event in the market’s history.

The interest in CM Punk’s first WWE match in nearly 10 years was a big drawing point, so much so that a number of fans weren’t all too bothered about seeing anything else on the show. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, a surprising number of fans left following CM Punk’s victory over Dominik Mysterio.

“The show actually was not a sellout, as they had made capacity about 16,300. But they only had 9,000 tickets out when the Punk vs. Mysterio match was announced. And live reports were that a surprising amount of fans left at intermission after Punk’s match, not staying for the Cody Rhodes vs. Shinsuke Nakamura bullrope match and Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre world title match.”

It should be noted that this was also the holiday season, so it could have been a mixture of some fans just wanting to see Punk, and some wanting to get home early.
