Malakai Black has departed AEW, but whilst many saw a post-match hug between Black and Adam Cole as a signal of his impending exit, Cole insists it was just a moment between friends.

Despite denying reports for several years, it was no secret that Black wanted out of All Elite Wrestling, with his departure confirmed with the expiration of his contract in early February. Black’s last singles match for the company came on the November 6 Dynamite, with Malakai breaking character to embrace Cole after doing the honours for the Undisputed Kingdom leader.

During a talk on In The Kliq, Cole talked about the moment:

“No, I really didn’t,” said Cole when asked if he knew what was going on with Black at the time. “I do have a history of working with Malakai, just an unbelievable opponent, an unbelievable guy to step in there with. We’ve shared a lot of really, really cool moments together. So for me, all it was was this personal moment between two guys who have a lot of love and respect for each other. I didn’t know anything about what his plans were or things like that. For me, it was just a cool moment with a friend after getting to work together after a long time.”

The two talents previously worked together in WWE NXT. The belief is Black is set to return to WWE in the near future.
