Adam Cole and MJF restarted their feud at the WrestleDream PPV, though this time with the heel and babyface roles reversed since the last time they came face-to-face. Despite MJF being off AEW programming due to filming movies, their rivalry has continued on AEW’s shows, with both Adam Cole and Roderick Strong wrestling matches to earn a shot to face MJF on PPV.

Strong managed to find his way to MJF first, losing out to him at the Full Gear 2024 PPV. The storyline has been the subject of some criticism from fans, though Adam Cole has noted that he believes it to be the correct call to continue this story. Speaking on the Danny Ocean Show, Cole revealed his thoughts and feelings.

“I’m confident in what we’re going to bring to the table. I’m confident in what we’re going to do, and I do think that us continuing this story with me coming back from injury was the right call. I do.”

He followed up by stating that every story needs a conclusion, and that includes his long-term storyline with MJF.

“I feel like it’s fair to the angle. It’s fair to the program that, coming back from injury, that’s exactly what I’m hopping into. Of course, you want to make as many people happy as possible. Then, sometimes too with stories, it takes a little bit to get back to where you were because a lot of the stuff that we did was very slow burn.”
