AEW Blocked Eddie Kingston From Doing Suffocation Angle

AEW stopped Eddie Kingston from recreating Terry Funk's famous plastic bag angle

From pouring gasoline on Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson to being hit with a fireball, Eddie Kingston has been part of some of the most memorable moments in All Elite Wrestling history. There was a famous pro wrestling angle that Kingston wasn't allowed to recreate, however.

Amid their heated rivalry in 1989, Terry Funk proceeded to attack Ric Flair following a tag team match at WCW Clash of the Champions VIII and tried to suffocate him by tying a plastic bag around Flair's head. Flair was left with the bag on his head for over a minute as he was repeatedly pummelled by Funk.

The spot received a backlash from Turner executives, who feared that fans would try and recreate the suffocation at home. Their stance seemingly hasn't changed since 1989 as Eddie Kingston revealed to The Ringer that AEW blocked him from recreating the angle during his 2022 programme with Chris Jericho.

"Trust me, I know how Turner is scared about that because I've asked about the plastic bag several times. It was always walking in and Tony [Khan] going, 'We're not doing the plastic bag,'" Kingston said.

The former AEW Continental Champion is currently out of action, having suffered a torn meniscus and ACL earlier this year that will keep him out of action well into 2025
