AEW Changes Continental Classic Format
Continental Classic format tweaked by AEW
Nov 28, 2024
The second ever Continental Classic tournament is underway in All Elite Wrestling, but the format has been changed slightly this year.
The inaugural edition saw the first and second placed wrestlers of the gold and blue leagues battle in semi final matches at AEW New year’s Smash, with the final taking place at World’s End. However, this year both the semi final and final of the C2 will take place on the same night, with both matches taking place at Worlds End on December 28.
In another twist, the semi finals will now see the winner of the gold league take on the runner up in the blue league, and vice versa, with the winner being crowned AEW Continental Champion.
So far three matches have taken place in the C2 2024, with Shelton Benjamin picking up a win over Mark Briscoe in the blue league, whilst Claudio Castagnoli beat Ricochet, and Brody King defeating long-time rival Darby Allin in the gold league on the November 27 edition of AEW Dynamite.
The inaugural Continental Classic - AEW’s take on the NJPW G1 Climax - saw Eddie Kingston defeat Jon Moxley to unify the ROH World Championship, NJPW STRONG Championship, and the AEW Continental Championship to reign as the Continental Crown Champion. You can buy tickets for AEW Worlds End now.
