Along with filing to trademark the 'Saturday Collision' logo, All Elite Wrestling filed to trademark the term 'Transfer Portal' on May 17 with the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

'Transfer Portal' was trademarked for the following purposes:

"C 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Conducting entertainment exhibitions in the nature of wrestling exhibits and performances by professional wrestlers; Entertainment in the nature of wrestling contests; Entertainment services in the nature of live wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and wrestling multimedia entertainment event content; Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of wrestling."

'Transfer Portal' will be a well-known phrase for fans of college sports in the United States. The NCAA has operated a transfer portal since October 2018, a system which allows student-athletes to put their name in an online database to make it clear they are seeking a transfer to another institution.

The trademark has led to speculation that AEW will introduce a similar concept following the debut of AEW Collision on Saturday, June 17, with the idea that talents can ask to be transferred between Collision and Dynamite if the promotion decides to introduce a brand split of some sort.

Rumours have suggested in recent months at Collision will see the debut of a roster split in some fashion from June 17. Some reports have stated the brand split will be hard, while others have suggested talents won't solely appear on one show but a split will be utilised to ease possible locker room tensions.
