Earlier this week the NWA announced that former two-time World’s Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis had signed a new deal with the company, with NWA’s top star tied down for an undisclosed amount of time.
However, reports have emerged that prior to re-signing with NWA, Aldis had spoken to AEW about possibly working there, with Dave Meltzer revealing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
“[Aldis] had interest in AEW and had talked with Christopher Daniels about it after his contract expired last week. His new contract is both as a wrestler and also working behind-the-scenes in editing and producing content.”
A former IMPACT World Champion, Aldis’ stock increased when he joined the NWA, holding the 10lbs of Gold for much of the last four years.
Aldis worked the All In pay-per-view in 2018, losing the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship to Cody Rhodes. The event is seen as the launchpad for what would become AEW, with now AEW EVPs Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks being some of the major driving forces behind the super-show.
