AEW's Brian Cage: We Never Really Did Much With The FTW Title

Cage is happy to move on from Team Taz

Only weeks after his All Elite Wrestling debut at Double Or Nothing 2020, Brian Cage was gifted the unofficial FTW Championship by his manager Taz.

Cage would carry the title for the next year but he only defended it on three occasions before he dropped it to Ricky Starks on July 2. Cage instead spent much of his time with Team Taz feuding with Darby Allin and then "Hangman" Adam Page before his split from the faction.

Speaking about his time with the title with Dynamite Download, Cage noted "we never really did that much with it."

"The FTW Title, which I never asked for, it was handed to me. It was cool, it was neat, but it wasn't anything I asked for or anything I needed. More so, we never really did that much with it. It was cool, but I don't know, I was indifferent on the whole thing. Obviously, with how it all ended, it doesn't sit very well with me," Cage said.

Cage then reflected on his feud with Ricky Starks and Team Taz and The Machine admitted he would be okay if he moved on to a different storyline.

"The more we've gotten to with this thing, it has taken longer than it probably should have to have gotten there and now, at this point, yes, I want my retribution and I still want to beat Ricky Starks when it's one-on-one, but at the same time, I'm almost okay with moving on just to move on. I'm caught in the middle where I wanted a Team Taz is barred from ringside stipulation, but at the same time, the idea of finally moving away from Team Taz feels damn good as well," he added.

"It's a little open-ended and with that long-term storytelling, we can fall back to it. Come this weekend, if we move in a totally different direction, I'm not going to be terribly upset with it."

Cage has appeared to be unhappy in All Elite Wrestling in recent weeks. The Machine's wife, Melissa Santos, tweeted that Cage was being misused within AEW and the former IMPACT World Champion replied with a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air GIF, seemingly agreeing with the statement.
