AEW's Tony Khan & Jim Ross React To 'JR Leaving Commentary' Rumours
Reports of JR stepping away from the booth surfaced this weekend
Aug 30, 2021
AEW’s Tony Khan and Jim Ross have apparently shot down rumours of JR stepping away from the AEW commentary desk.
Taking to social media, JR simply Tweeted:
“It’s news to me…”
Tony Khan also seemed to shoot down these rumours, with The Wrestling Observer stating that ‘Tony Khan said reports that they are looking to remove Jim Ross as announcer are inaccurate. He said he's never said that and he's also told Ross he's never said that.’
It had been suggested over the weekend that JR would still be sticking with AEW, but rather than occupying his current place on Dynamite’s commentary team, would transition to a role focused more on backstage sit-down interviews, and commentary stints during the companies big matches and events.
The veteran announcer signed a three-year deal with AEW in April 2019, with the initial reports of his change in role stating that if JR were to sign a new deal when his current one lapses, then it ‘likely wouldn’t be under the same terms’.
Whatever the role, it seems like Jim Ross will still be All Elite for some time yet.
