AEW's Tony Khan Apologised To Hikaru Shida After Willie Urbina Mocked Her Accent

The commentator was let go by AEW on Saturday

AEW President and CEO Tony Khan says he personally apologised to Hikaru Shida after a member of the Spanish commentary team was heard to mock her accent.

Willie Urbina was caught making fun of Asian accents by the hot mic of the Fite TV broadcast during the Friday 28 May AEW: Dynamite show, while the promotion recognised Shida's one-year reign as AEW Women's champion.

Urbina's actions were shared and condemned on social media and it was reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer that the commentator had been let go by AEW on Saturday.

Khan has now offered his reaction to the incident and revealed he apologised to Shida himself after hearing about what happened.

Speaking during the post-AEW Double Or Nothing Media Scrum he said: "I didn’t think there was any excuse. I was not happy. Afterwards, I heard what was said and having our commentators involved with what was said about her, who I also apologized to, I thought it was best for the company to make this decision."
