AEW’s Tony Khan: Tay Conti Is One Of Wrestling's Hottest Prospects
Conti has become one of AEW's women's division's most popular stars
Much has been made of AEW scooping up released WWE talent, but in most cases, the moves made by AEW in acquiring the signatures of former WWE stars has been successful, including those released from WWE developmental.
One such name is Tay Conti, with the Brazilian star cut from NXT in 2020, before developing into one of AEW's most popular women's division wrestlers. And AEW President Tony Khan has reserved special praise for Conti, saying on the AEW Unrestricted podcast:
“Tay Conti is another great example of somebody who had been fired by WWE, and I thought was one of the top prospects in wrestling. I was really surprised. You see maybe a good number, and I don’t want to make light of the number, I don’t know the exact number, but on average, every several months, you see maybe 20 people get let go on a mass layoff. On average, 20 or 25 people. Every time there’s a few great talents that are available. I think we’ve been selective about how we built our roster, but certainly we have a lot more star power on the roster.”
Conti has her highest profile match to date at AEW Full Gear on November 13, as she faces AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker for the gold.
