Back on the July 22 episode of Dynamite, AEW announced they would be holding the Women's Tag Team Cup Tournament: The Deadly Draw. The tournament will consist of eight randomised teams and will be broadcast on Monday nights on the young promotion's YouTube channel.

Night One of The Deadly Draw was broadcast last night and the show started off with a bang as ring announcer Shaul Guerrero introduced WWE Hall Of Famer Madusa to open the tournament. After a brief promo, the former WCW star headed to the back and the action began.

Before the first match, the next two teams were revealed as Allie and Brandi Rhodes both picked out a red chip while Penelope Ford and Mel drew baby blue. In their bout, both teams battled back and forth but The Nightmare Sisters ultimately picked up the win by cheating. Ford and Mel had the match won, but as the former Global Force Wrestling star set up for the finish, Allie raked her eyes which gave Rhodes the opening she needed to hit a Spear for the 1-2-3. Brandi then gloated over her fallen opponent because of their shared history in The Nightmare Collective.

The second and final match of the evening had been announced ahead of time as Tay Conti and Anna Jay teamed together against Nyla Rose and Ariane Andrew. Vickie Guerrero's run as The Native Beast's manager didn't get off to the best of starts, however, as she was eliminated from the tournament after Jay hit Andrew with a Rolling Neckbreaker for the win. The result isn't likely to affect Rose as she looked dominant throughout the contest and maintained heat by demolishing her tag team partner after the bell.
