Work on a 3D humanoid robot of Antonio Inoki has begun, and the aim is for the project to be completed before the anniversary of Inoki's birth on February 20, 2027.

It has been announced by Inoki Genki Factory, the company that manages licensing deals for Antonio Inoki, AVITA Corporation, and SMBC Group that work is underway on the 'Android Inoki' project, which will look to create an artificial intelligence and humanoid robot based on the founder of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

The project is being led by Hiroshi Ishiguro, a leading expert in the creation of anthropomorphic robots. The aim is for the 3D robot to "embody the presence of Antonio Inoki" and present his legacy "in a form that allows dialogue with future generations."

At a press conference announcing the project, Hiroshi Ishiguro was asked if the robot version of Inoki would be able to wrestle. Ishiguro noted it would take some time before that was a possibility.

Antonio Inoki passed away on October 1, 2022 from systemic transthyretin amyloidosis. In addition to his legendary run as a pro wrestler, Inoki had a prolific career in politics, twice serving in Japan's House of Councillors.
