Anthony Bowens Wanted Chuck Palumbo To Be His Birthday Gift For Billy Gunn
Anthony Bowens wanted to reunite Billy (Gunn) and Chuck (Palumbo) on AEW TV
Billy Gunn's birthday bash on the November 2 edition of AEW Dynamite saw The Acclaimed shower ‘Daddy Ass’ with praise and gifts, but things could have differently had Anthony Bowens had his way.
During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Bowens revealed that less than half of his ideas for the birthday bash came to fruition, saying the following:
"The Daddy Ass Birthday Bash celebration, I thought it would be a fun idea, and I did put it together. What you saw, people enjoyed, but it was maybe 30 or 40 percent of what I had originally planned," said Bowens.
As for what his main gift to Gunn was originally going to be, Bowens revealed that they were hoping to reunite Billy with his former tag partner Chuck Palumbo:
"He was going to be my birthday gift to Billy. I thought the irony of me reuniting Billy & Chuck would be perfect for this birthday bash, but he wasn't available last minute,” continued Bowens.
Eventually, the segment saw Billy become the adoptive father of The Acclaimed;
"Everything that we had really thought about that would have been cool, ended up not being available, so we just had to pivot,” said Bowens. “Here's this trophy, adopt us, so we are Billy Gunn's adopted children now. Just know, that segment was going to be absolutely insane if it had been the way we had planned it.”
