United Empire now sit atop both of New Japan Pro-Wrestling's tag team divisions.

Aussie Open challenged YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto of Bishamon for the IWGP Tag Team Championships at NJPW Sakura Genesis on Saturday, April 8. While Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis had come up short against Bishamon in the 2022 World Tag League final, they did not on this occasion, pinning Hirooki Goto following Coriolis to capture the IWGP Tag Team Championships.

Their United Empire stablemates TJP and Francesco Akira are also the reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and have held the gold for 292 days.

With their loss today, Bishamon's second reign as IWGP Tag Team Champions ends after 94 days, having regained the gold from FTR at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4. They successfully defended the belts on two occasions during their second reign, defeating TMDK's Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls, as well as the team of Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Aussie Open have had a busy 2023 so far, challenging for the ROH World Tag Team Titles and IMPACT World Tag Team Championships in recent months.
