Bryan Danielson with a submission hold on Swerve Strickland

At the 2024 All In: London PPV, Bryan Danielson won the AEW World Championship, defeating Swerve Strickland in the main event at Wembley Stadium. Their match was an emotional rollercoaster, ending when Strickland submitted to the Yes! Lock, tapping out in a rare clean defeat for the former world champion.

Per a report from Fightful Select, Danielson’s win had been planned since earlier this year, though it was Swerve Strickland who was reportedly “adamant” that he wanted to submit and tap out to Danielson. He opposed the idea of passing out and losing consciousness. The reason for this isn’t clear, but the result of it led to a huge pop when Danielson won the match, and it made him look much stronger in the process by making Strickland submit. It is also noted that since the start of Strickland’s reign, the plan was for Danielson to be the one to dethrone him.

Danielson’s run as AEW World Champion has now come to an end as he dropped the gold to Jon Moxley at the WrestleDream PPV, putting a stop to his career as a full-time in-ring performer.
