Despite their plans to sign with WWE once their AEW deals expire, the Lucha Bros will not be doing so anytime soon.
While Penta El Zero Miedo has had a few months added to his deal for time out due to injury, his brother Rey Fenix has had substantially more time tacked on to his and will not be able to join WWE until well into 2025. Between 2021 and 2024, Fenix missed around a year of action because of injuries.
Fightful Select has provided more details on AEW's decision to add time to the former International Champion's contract, noting that the promotion saw evidence of at least one of the brothers discussing their intention to join WWE, despite AEW sources indicating that the team had not communicated their plans to leave.
Though Penta and Fenix may still be under contract to AEW, it is currently unknown whether the promotion will actually have them work or simply put them 'on ice'. Fightful did not receive a clear answer as to AEW's motivation for extending their contracts, other than they wanted to get the amount of time the duo were contracted for.
Furthermore, AEW talent are expecting Penta and Fenix to be asked to put talent over since they are on the way out. A report indicated that the Lucha Bros did not want to 'do business' before they left.
