Backstage News On Booking Of Kevin Owens Vs. Cody Rhodes At WWE Royal Rumble

The long-running programme between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens came to an end at Royal Rumble as Rhodes ultimately won a Ladder Match to retain the Undisputed WWE Title.

Cody won the match following an Alabama Slam to Owens through a ladder, with the match featuring several major spots using ladders, including KO taking a backbody drop on the side of a ladder and Owens hitting Rhodes with a fisherman's buster from the top turnbuckle onto a ladder.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider has reported that Kevin Owens received lots of praise within WWE following the match for the part he played in putting the match together, as well as the bumps he took at the Rumble. Cody Rhodes and others who helped put the match together heaped praise upon Owens, noting that KO "deserved the credit."

Owens sustained a black eye in the ladder match, which was evident on Monday Night Raw. KO was present in the final moments of the show, which suffered from major streaming issues, as he attacked Sami Zayn from behind and laid out his former best friend with a package piledriver.
