Backstage News On Drew McIntyre "Quitting" WWE

Everything you need to know about Drew McIntyre "quitting" WWE

Drew McIntyre was off WWE TV (for less than a week) after "quitting" the company on the June 17 edition of Monday Night Raw as part of his ongoing feud with CM Punk.

McIntyre quit WWE after CM Punk interfered at Clash at the Castle to cost 'Irn Dru' the World Heavyweight Championship. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce tried to stop McIntyre from leaving but he just brushed past Pearce and McIntyre even walked out on Triple H when the WWE Chief Content Officer tried to talk him around.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the angle for McIntyre to "quit" WWE was always the plan and McIntyre's wife undergoing emergency surgery over the weekend had nothing to do with Drew taking time off. Regardless, McIntyre is now able to spend some more time at home to take care of his wife with him no longer "technically" being a part of WWE.

McIntyre returned to WWE programming pretty quickly on the following episode of SmackDown, attacking CM Punk. The plan for SummerSlam would reportedly see CM Punk and Drew McIntyre go one-on-one for the first time, should Punk be cleared to compete following his torn triceps in January at the Royal Rumble.

SummerSlam is scheduled to emanate from Ohio's Cleveland Browns Stadium on Saturday, August 3.
