FTR solidified their heel turn on the April 23 edition of All Elite Wrestling Dynamite, with the ‘Top Guys’ forming an alliance with Stokely Hathaway before attacking the legendary Rock & Roll Express.

The segment marked the first appearance of Hathaway on AEW television in several months, but a report from Fightful Select suggests that this pairing has been in the works for some time, with plans to pair the two sides initially discussed in 2024.

Hathaway at one point was scouting tag teams across AEW TV, and was shown watching FTR matches. However, when The Outrunners got hot, the decision was made to pair them with FTR, thus delaying Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood’s heel turn.

Hathaway is not the first manager to look after FTR’s affairs in AEW, with the multi-time tag team champions formerly aligned with Four Horseman legend Tully Blanchard, with Tully handling FTR before and during their time in The Pinnacle.

FTR’s heel turn had been simmering for some time in AEW, before Dax and Cash turned on Rated FTR teammate Adam Copeland at Dynasty, dropping the multi-time world champion with a spike piledriver and a conchairto, writing him off AEW TV.
