Konosuke Takeshita bagged the AEW International Title at this past weekend's WrestleDream pay-per-view when he defeated Will Ospreay and Ricochet in a three way match (thanks to a timely assist from Kyle Fletcher).
According to a report from Fightful Select, Takeshita had been planned to win the title for a number of weeks.
In addition, the report noted that former champion Ospreay will not be present on this week's edition of Dynamite as he sells his injuries.
During the post-WrestleDream media scrum, the new champion was asked whether he planned to defend the title around the world (as previous champions have), to which he responded:
"I said [I'd take this title] all over the world, so Italy, Australia, America, Canada, Japan. I will accept any challenge that is worthy of me".
The International Title is the first that the 29-year-old has won in AEW.
Earlier this year, Takeshita described wrestling full-time for AEW as 'the most mentally exhausting period of his career', though he later clarified that he did not mean it in a negative way.
The AEW International Champion had previously detailed why he chose Tony Khan's promotion over WWE.
