Backstage News On Last-Minute Changes To WWE Raw

Some late changes were made to WWE Raw on October 2

Monday Night Raw featured several late changes for the October 2 episode from the SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Becky Lynch was originally scheduled to defend the NXT Women's Championship against Tegan Nox but Lynch wasn't cleared to wrestle due to a laceration in her arm that required 11 stitches from her Extreme Rules Match against Tiffany Stratton at No Mercy. Damian Priest was also not cleared for in-ring action on WWE Raw which caused his match with Jey Uso to be scrapped. Another change on the show saw the planned Nia Jax vs. Shayna Baszler match scrapped in place of a brawl between the two former tag team partners to open the show.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed WWE simply decided to scrap the singles match between Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

"So one thing about the show is everything advertised didn't happen. Like everything. Nia and Shayna never had the match. Damian Priest wasn't cleared, Becky Lynch and Tegan Knox didn't happen because Becky wasn't cleared. Shayna and Nia didn't happen because they decided not to have it happen," Meltzer said.

The Tommaso Ciampa and Gunther contract signing that was advertised did take place as planned. It led to an unadvertised main event for the Intercontinental Championship that Gunther won with a Sleeper Hold. Johnny Gargano then returned in a post-main event angle to reform #DIY with Ciampa.

The advertised match of Xavier Woods vs. Ivar also took place as planned.
