More details have come to light regarding Miro's release from AEW, thanks to a recent report from Fightful Select.

It was already known that the former WWE Superstar had requested his AEW release sometime last year, but Fightful's update brings more to light, with it being noted the situation had "gone radio silent" before Miro's release was made official. The former Rusev had not been mentioned within AEW creative for around six months and the expectation within AEW was that Miro wouldn't be back.

Miro, having inked an extension in early 2022, was signed with AEW until early 2026 prior to his release.

Miro's last AEW match came at the 2023 Worlds End pay-per-view where he defeated Andrade, who left AEW following that show and rejoined WWE.

Miro's next steps are unknown but there will surely be numerous WWE fans clamouring for the company to bring back the former Rusev. Despite three United States Championship reigns, many felt that he deserved to be a bonafide WWE main eventer and was never pushed heavily enough given his popularity with the fans.

Miro was only made part of one title's lineage in AEW too, the TNT Championship, which he won from Darby Allin and lost to Sammy Guevara in 2021.
