New Japan Pro-Wrestling held their first major event since Wrestle Dynasty on Tuesday, February 11 as New Beginning in Osaka emanated from EDION Arena Osaka.

A boyhood dream came true in the main event of New Beginning in Osaka as Hirooki Goto defeated Zack Sabre Jr. to win the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Sabre dominated much of the match and he looked to have the match won after 15 minutes following multiple Zack Drivers and a brutal submission on Goto but the challenger managed to reach the bottom rope after the fans in Osaka rallied behind him.

A second wind for Goto followed and he managed to connect with a GTW and Shouten-Kai before he attempted a GTR, only for ZSJ to reverse into a pin. That looked to be it but Goto kicked out at 2.9 as the fans in Osaka erupted.

Shortly after, as the match passed 20 minutes, Goto connected with two GTRs and pinned Zack Sabre Jr. to capture NJPW's top title at the ninth attempt and in his first title shot since 2016.

Post-match, a tearful Goto dedicated the win to his late father and celebrated in the ring with his children.

The semi-main event saw Yota Tsuji defend the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship against Gabe Kidd in a hard-hitting affair. Gabe Kidd channelled his inner Pete Weber during the contest, telling Tsuji, "Who do you think you are? I am" before he blocked a Geneblaster attempt and laid out the champion with a Piledriver. Kidd was unable to make the cover immediately, however, and Tsuji was able to kick out by the time Gabe draped his arm over his opponent.

Following a huge lariat that turned Tsuji inside out, Kidd looked to follow up with a V-Trigger but Tsuji countered with a Geneblaster. Neither man was able to make it to their feet before the count of 10, though, and Red Shoes Uno ruled the match a draw.

Post-match, EVIL made his return and briefly teased a babyface turn before he assisted House of Torture in beating down Tsuji. EVIL then surprisingly laid out Gabe Kidd and decreed that the War Dogs were no longer affiliated with Bullet Club. A civil war within Bullet Club has just begun.

The IWGP Tag Team Titles also changed hands at New Beginning in Osaka as Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi defeated The Young Bucks. The match had a frenetic pace and Matthew and Nicholas Jackson looked set to retain following an EVP Trigger to Naito, but the Los Ingobernabes de Japon leader managed to survive. The Young Bucks then went for a Tony Khan Driver to Hiromu Takahashi but Naito saved his tag team partner and took out The Bucks with Destinos. One more Destino to Nicholas Jackson scored the win for Naito and Takahashi to end The Young Bucks' reign after just 37 days.

The Young Bucks' AEW colleague Konosuke Takeshita had better luck in his NEVER Openweight Title defence as he survived Boltin Oleg's offence and ultimately won the match with Raging Fire in his hometown of Osaka. Takeshita's next defence was set up post-match as he was challenged by Ryohei Oiwa.

Shota Umino's descent continued at New Beginning in Osaka too as he was defeated by Great-O-Khan. Umino even attacked O-Khan during his entrance but he was unable to retain the advantage, with O-Khan picking up the win following an STO and the Eliminator. Following the match, O-Khan went to shave Umino's hair but Shota snatched away the clippers and proceeded to shave off his own hair.

A big upset took place in the second match of the show as Drilla Moloney defeated Shingo Takagi. The Osaka crowd were firmly behind Takagi and they were legitimately stunned after Moloney hit the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion with a Drilla Killa and pinned him for the win.

Elsewhere at New Beginning in Osaka, SANADA used every trick in the book to defeat Taichi, the Ichiban Sweet Boys successfully defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles against Rocky Romero & YOH, and Hiroshi Tanahashi's retirement tour continued with a win over Togi Makabe.
