Backstage News On Saraya Winning The AEW Women's World Title At All In

A late call?

All In was quite the homecoming for Saraya, who defeated Hikaru Shida, Britt Baker and Toni Storm to capture the AEW Women's World Championship on the night.

According to a report from Fightful Select, the decision to put the belt on Saraya was a late one.

The site noted that they can't be certain how far ahead Tony Khan made the decision, but that those close to Saraya say she herself only found out about it no earlier than the day before.

The 31-year-old will next defend her title on the Title Tuesday edition of AEW Dynamite (on October 10), when she squares off with former two-time Women's World Champion Shida.

Since winning the title in Wembley Stadium, Saraya has only managed one successful defence. She defeated Toni Storm at Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 20.

Prior to winning the title, she had hinted at unhappiness with AEW's booking of the women's division. Tony Khan himself responded to criticism from fans regarding the decision to only book one women's match at All In.
