Backstage News On When Roman Reigns Vs. Cody Rhodes Became The Planned WrestleMania 39 Main Event

Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania 39 has been planned for a while

With WWE WrestleMania 39 only days away, we are finally set to witness Cody Rhodes challenge for the big one when he takes on Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns on Mania Night Two on April 2.

Rhodes booked his ticket to Mania upon winning the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match in January, with many fans banking on Rhodes winning the 30-man match after being out for the majority of 2022 with a pectoral injury.

Despite Rhodes being out of action, WWE’s Bruce Prichard has revealed that the company started planning for Rhodes vs. Reigns last year, revealing the following to The Press Box:

"I would say that getting to this place, where we are, started probably in August. We were really shooting for that and trying to make things work so that by the time we got to WrestleMania, we were looking at it in August," said Prichard.

Prichard continued, noting how the storyline evolved week-by-week:

"Even still today, we like to look at what is the end goal? Where do we want to be at the end of this story? What's the ending? And then work backward. When you look at the Bloodline story and integrating Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens and now Cody, it's very deep storytelling. There were so many hints and things along the way that when you look back at it, you go, 'Wow, I remember that. That meant this.' You start putting the pieces together," Prichard said.
