Black Taurus recently announced his departure from Lucha Libre AAA, and a new report suggests Taurus could be set to sign for Ring of Honor/All Elite Wrestling.

Reports in December 2023 suggested that Taurus could be set to sign with Tony Khan’s promotions, after an impressive pair of showings at Ring of Honor Final Battle, and AEW Rampage - both against AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo.

A new report from TheCubsFan/Luchablog suggests that Taurus has indeed reached an agreement, however there comes with it legal complications. AAA own the rights to the ‘Taurus’ gimmick, and whilst they were seemingly happy for Black taurus to use the name and gimmick on the independent scene and whilst working with AAA partner TNA, they are apparently less happy about the gimmick being used on major TV, especially as the relationship between AAA and AEW is a little complicated.

If and when Taurus is confirmed to be under an AEW/ROH contract, it could be with a gimmick change, likely without the word ‘Taurus’ featuring at all. Look at the case of Penta el Zero Miedo, who goes by several monikers in AEW aside from Pentagon Jr., as that name is owned by AAA. TheCubsFan’s report suggests that this outcome is something Black Taurus is prepared for.

If AAA stand firm on their ownership of the Taurus gimmick, then there is a possibility they could ‘recast’ the gimmick, as has been the case with the likes of Octagon and Myzteziz.
