While the two promotions have closely collaborated in the past, particularly with The Collective during WWE WrestleMania 41 weekend, Brett Lauderdale has stated that Game Changer Wrestling have never received money from WWE.

Responding to criticism of GCW working with WWE and a claim the promotion was not independent because of this, Lauderdale replied: "To date: GCW has received $0 from 'the fed', aew, tna, or any other wrestling promotion."

"The fed" is a popular term to refer to WWE due to their past name of the World Wrestling Federation.

Game Changer Wrestling worked with WWE over WrestleMania 41 weekend, hosting WWE ID championship tournament matches on Wednesday, April 16. Several WWE talents were also in action at Josh Barnett's Bloodsport XIII, including Karrion Kross, Pete Dunne, Charlie Dempsey, and Natalya. Of the seven WWE wrestlers performing on the show, only NXT's Karmen Petrovic lost their match.

Lauderdale recently addressed criticism of working with WWE for WrestleMania weekend, saying:

"This is a 4 pm Wednesday show. There are 12 other shows that have nothing to do with WWE. No funding, no oversight, nothing. Honestly, there's just as much AEW influence on The Collective as WWE. The name is 'The Collective' for a reason. It's everyone coming together."
