Britt Baker Vs. Riho Announced For AEW Battle Of The Belts

For the AEW Women's title

The first match has been announced for AEW Battle of the Belts on January 8, as Women's champion Britt Baker will defend her title against Riho. The match was announced during Friday's Rampage.

Riho defeated Baker in a non-title "championship eliminator" match on the November 26 Rampage. The match came about due to Riho technically not being eliminated from the Women's Casino Battle Royale at All Out in September, and the eliminator match was presented to her as an opportunity to earn a title shot.

The loss was Baker's first singles defeat since losing to Thunder Rosa in an unsanctioned Lights Out match in March. Prior to then, Baker's next most recent loss was to Nyla Rose in February.

Riho became the first AEW Women's champion on October 2, 2019, when she defeated Rose on the premiere episode of Dynamite. She held the title for over four months before losing it to Rose.

Battle of the Belts airs on Saturday, January 8, from the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. It's one of four quarterly specials that AEW will have on TNT through their deal with WarnerMedia, commencing in 2022. No other matches have been announced for the special as of yet.
