WrestleMania 42 Sunday kicked off with Oba Femi scoring a quick and decisive victory over Brock Lesnar.
After the match, a visibly emotional Lesnar took off his gloves and boots and left them in the centre of the ring before embracing Paul Heyman, ostensibly signalling his retirement from professional wrestling.
If it does turn out to be the last match of Brock's WWE career, he would have went out against an opponent that he personally selected.
According to BodySlam, Lesnar himself handpicked Femi for the match at WrestleMania 42. Whether Brock did so knowing that he would be 'passing the torch' on his way out remains unclear.
Brock's apparent retirement appears to have taken many within WWE by surprise, with Fightful Select noting that most people they spoke with expected The Beast to retire at SummerSlam (which takes place in Minneapolis, where Lesnar has history).
If Lesnar has, in fact, retired, that would be bad news for Gunther, who has long lobbied for a match with Brock and would have no doubt liked to have added him to the list of notable superstars he has retired.
