Cain Velasquez-Junior Dos Santos Confrontation Originally Planned For AAA TripleMania Regia

Velaquez vs. Dos Santos IV

A confrontation between two former UFC rivals was planned for AAA's upcoming TripleMania Regia show in Monterrey, Mexico.

AAA Head Of Creative Konnan revealed on his Keepin' It 100 podcast that the promotion wanted to book a confrontation between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez, which would have taken place after Cardio Cain's return match. Dos Santos was unavailable, though.

ESPN's Marc Raimondi noted American Top Team's Dan Lambert would have also been involved in the angle, tweeting: "I had heard this, too. The pitch was to fly dos Santos and Dan Lambert down to Mexico and JDS would have started a storyline in AAA with his old UFC rival Cain Velasquez. Would have been fun, but dos Santos couldn't do it."

Cain Velasquez is scheduled to return to AAA at TripleMania Regia on December 4. He is set to team with Psycho Clown and Pagano against LA Park, Black Taurus and Rey Escorpion.

Junior Dos Santos was also recently involved in pro wrestling through American Top Team's feud with Inner Circle in All Elite Wrestling. He made his pro wrestling debut on the October 15 edition of Rampage alongside The Men Of The Year and he then competed again at the Full Gear pay-per-view in a Minneapolis Street Fight.

Dos Santos and Velasquez were previously rivals in MMA and they had a trilogy of fights over the UFC Heavyweight Championship between 2011 and 2013. Dos Santos won their first fight while Velasquez won their second and third bouts.
