Callum Newman suffered an injury during his IWGP Heavyweight Title defence against Yota Tsuji in the main event of NJPW Dominion on Sunday, June 14.
Newman sustained a shoulder injury on a belly-to-belly suplex and Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer has reported the 23-year-old is believed to have suffered a dislocated shoulder. The shoulder was popped back in during the match, but Newman will be undergoing an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
Newman dropped the IWGP Heavyweight Championship back to Yota Tsuji at Dominion, ending his reign after 71 days. Newman became the youngest IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history at Sakura Genesis on April 4 with a win over Tsuji.
Callum Newman has been a part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling since 2023 and he has steadily risen to become the leader of United Empire. Newman noted earlier this year that he had signed a long-term contract with NJPW.
As of the time of writing, Newman is still advertised for NJPW G1 Climax 36. He is scheduled to compete in the B block along with Zack Sabre Jr., Shota Umino, Yuya Uemura, Ren Narita, Drilla Moloney, Gabe Kidd, HENARE, and two other wrestlers.
