Callum Newman made history in recent weeks by becoming the youngest ever IWGP World Heavyweight Champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling history. At just 23 years of age, Newman defeated Yota Tsuji as NJPW Sakura Genesis 2026 to win the historic gold for the first time. On the back of this victory, and on the back of a recent appearance on AEW programming, Newman has addressed his future in professional wrestling and where to expect to see him wrestle in upcoming years.
Speaking on an interview on NJPW’s website, Newman was asked about the possibility and idea of AEW potentially wanting to bring him in, much like they’ve done with many of the promotion’s biggest stars in recent years such as Will Ospreay, Jay White, Kazuchika Okada, Gabe Kidd, and many others. Newman shut down any ideas of signing with AEW, revealing to have committed his future to NJPW, confirming that the deal he signed early this year was a long-term one.
“I’m signed here. I live here now and I’ve got a long-term contract. I’ve never spoken to Tony Khan. The only people I know there are Will (Ospreay) and Andrade (El Idolo).”
He also addressed previous comments in which he talked down about AEW.
“I don’t have them. I said in another interview that New Japan wrestlers are better than AEW wrestlers. Nothing against the company, but the people here are better, that’s all.”
