Mickie James' WWE career was a trophy laden success, but initial plans called for the multi-time Women’s Champion to work as CM Punk’s manager instead.
Whilst Mickie would eventually make it to WWE TV in October 2005 as part of a feud with Trish Stratus it was seemingly a long-time coming, with James telling Ben Veal that there were several pitches for her ahead of her debut:
“I was supposed to debut probably five times with different ideas that they had come up with or whatever. None of them stuck, including debuting with CM Punk on Sunday Night Heat as his manager. Vicky Adams, I think. I kept going, like, ‘Where does this Vicky Adams keep coming from on my Wikipedia? Somebody delete that. I don’t know who she is.’ But I guess that was the name that they used when I was supposed to debut with him. It didn’t. It lasted that night is what it did,” said James.
James and Punk had worked together prior to joining WWE, with Punk, and James - then known as Alexis Laree - both part of The Gathering in early TNA, working under leader Raven.
