Carmelo Hayes: Shawn Michaels Told Me He Would Help Me To Be Successful, Not Liked

Carmelo Hayes has opened up on his relationship with Shawn Michaels in WWE NXT, revealing the Heartbreak Kid told him he would help him to be successful, but not necessarily liked.

Hayes has previously spoken about how closely WWE Hall Of Famer Michaels is working with him in NXT, with the North American Champion taken under Michaels' wing, and the 27-year-old is not worried about saying what he feels.

Speaking on ‘The War Report’ on RNC Radio ahead of WarGames on Sunday, Hayes revealed: "You know what it is bro? Is I believe everything I’m saying. I don’t say it unless I believe it and it is — I do feel that does hurt me a little bit because these older...not gonna say ‘older guys’ but these more experienced guys, I feel like they do take it to the head.

"But like I said in that first one man, I tell you, Shawn Michaels told me, he said, ‘I’m not here to help you be liked, I’m here to help you be successful’ and that’s coming from Shawn Michaels. I took that to heart.

"I said, ‘You know what? Bet. If they don’t like me, that’s their problem but I’m gonna be successful one way or another.’ So that’s how I carry myself so, I say what I wanna say and I believe what I’m saying and I think that they believe what I’m saying too so it gets them a little bit pressed and at the end of the day, I don’t care. That’s how I’m gonna do my promos from this point on is just say what I feel."
