Carmelo Hayes Wins In WWE SmackDown Debut

Carmelo Hayes defeated Grayson Waller on SmackDown

One of NXT’s hottest prospects was on Friday Night SmackDown last night, as former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes was involved in the United States Championship number one contenders tournament.

He took on his former NXT rival Grayson Waller on last night’s SmackDown, making his debut with the blue brand with a big victory, advancing from the quarter finals to the semi finals. This wasn’t Hayes’ main roster debut, as earlier this year he took on Finn Balor on Monday Night RAW whilst he was reigning as NXT Champion, though this was in a losing effort. The reigning United States Champion Logan Paul would cut an inset promo on Hayes, mocking the NXT star for not knowing who he is. Of course, if Hayes wins the tournament, he will lock horns with Paul down the road with the title on the line.

It isn’t clear whether Hayes’ presence on SmackDown will mean a permanent call-up, as he is currently embroiled in an NXT storyline with Trick Williams and Lexis King.
